The Origin of The Vigiles

"The vigiles (or cohortes vigilum) were formed during the reign of Augustus to act as ancient Rome's permanent firefighting service. Evolving from earlier slave teams, the vigiles were organized as an urban military unit and eventually recruits came from the Roman citizenry. The body, with a permanent camp of its own and equipment stations dotted around the city, patrolled the streets of Rome each night and also performed certain nocturnal policing duties to ensure public order. As with the initial multi-purpose of the original Vigiles, Vigiles Academy offers a wide spectrum of public safety proficiencies. With hand selected instructors we ensure that our students will receive only the best experience, because our instructors HAVE extensive experience in their subject matter of instruction. With our team we can provide an ever evolving and up to date level of education that reflects in lectures and detailed high fidelity scenarios. It is our belief that we "train how we play". To ensure that level training we personally develop our simulations to meet an educational, real life, and stress innoculation environment.

Dr. Nixon has agreed to carry the mantle for the late Dr. O'Connor, and continue our model of education. Dr. Nixon comes to us with extensive experience in medical education, Emergency Medicine, Law, and he himself was an EMT early in his career! Please help us in welcoming him to the Vigiles family.
